Overview: The Virtual Racing Season (“VRS”) is a multi-stage competition involving several different racing video games and platforms. Players can compete in one or more Ladder Qualifiers in the following games:
- TrackMania Nations Forever (PC)
- Forza Motorsport 2 (Xbox 360)
- Need for Speed ProStreet (Xbox 360)
- Burnout Paradise (Xbox 360)
For all four games, there will be two approximately one-month-long Ladder Qualifiers (Ladder 1 and Ladder 2), then there will be a 12-day “Last Chance Ladder” for TrackMania Nations Forever only (Ladder 3). Top players from the Ladder Qualifiers will advance to a VRS Final Bracket, in which competitors will play TrackMania Nations Forever on the PC, regardless of the game they played in the ladders to qualify for the final. The winners of the VRS Final Bracket will win the VRS prizes, described in detail below.
TrackMania Nations Forever can be downloaded for free here: http://static.ggl.com/trackmania/TmNationsForever_Setup.exe
THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE TO PARTICIPATE OR WIN THIS COMPETITION.
Eligibility: Competition is open to players who are 13 years of age or older at the time of registration. The following are NOT eligible to participate or win prizes: Employees of Professional Interactive Entertainment, Inc. dba GGL (“GGL”), official sponsors of the Virtual Racing Season (“Sponsors”), and their respective parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, their advertising and promotion agencies, their licensors, and their respective employees, individuals engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials for this Competition, persons who are immediate family of, dependents of (as defined by IRS regulations), or who live in the same household as any person in any of the above categories. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law or regulation.
How to Register: Players must register online at http://vrs.ggl.com. The registration dates for each ladder competition will be as follows:
- Ladder 1: August 4, 2008 at 3:01pm EST through August 31, 2008 at 11:59pm EST
- Ladder 2: September 3, 2008 at 3:01pm EST through October 5, 2008 at 11:59pm EST
- Ladder 3: October 8, 2008 at 3:01pm EST through October 19, 2008 at 11:59pm EST
Ladders for all four games will follow the same schedule, with the exception that Ladder 3 is for TrackMania Nations Forever only.
NOTE – due to the “ladder” format of the Ladder Qualifiers, players may register and join the Ladder Qualifiers after they have begun, up to the end of each ladder. Each participant MUST register individually and must accurately complete all required registration information. LIMIT: One (1) registration per person, but players can enter more than one VRS ladder competition. All registration information submitted becomes the property of GGL and Sponsors and will not be returned. By registering for the Competition, participants agree to be contacted by GGL and Sponsors. GGL’s computer will be the official time clock for registration, and the official time zone for the Competition will be Eastern Standard Time.
How to Play: The tournament will consist of the following stages:
- Ladder 1 (8/6/08 – 8/31/08) – all 4 games
- Ladder 2 (9/3/08 – 10/5/08) – all 4 games
- Ladder 3 (10/8/08 – 10/19/08) – TrackMania Nations Forever (PC) only (“Last Chance Ladder”)
- VRS Final Bracket (10/22/08 – 11/15/08) – TrackMania Nations Forever (PC) only
Ladders: Players can enter as many of the VRS Ladder Qualifiers as they wish, one entry per ladder. Players must qualify for the VRS Final Bracket by finishing at the top of one or more of the Ladder Qualifiers, according to the following schedule:
- Ladder 1: Seven (7) players advance per game (28 players total)
- Ladder 2: Seven (7) players advance per game (28 players total)
- Ladder 3: Eight (8) players advance
Players can qualify for only one spot in the VRS Final Bracket. If a player finished in a qualifying position in more than one VRS Ladder Qualifier, all but one of those qualifying entries will be disqualified and additional winners selected from the Ladder Qualifiers where entries were disqualified. When determining which entry will be kept for a player with multiple entries, the entry with the highest ladder point total will be kept. Players must complete at least one match during the Ladder Qualifiers to be eligible to qualify for the final. An entry will be selected at random in case of ties.
Players in a ladder competition earn points for both winning and playing, and lose points for inactivity or declining to play, and are ranked based on how many points they have earned. Players are responsible for scheduling matches themselves, using GGL’s competition system, and can play as many matches as they wish. For details on ladder rules and settings, and game-specific rules, please see the “Rules” tab on each individual ladder page. You can access the ladder pages by clicking the game icons on the left side of the VRS main page or through the “Competitions” menu.
Bracket: The VRS Final Bracket will be a single-elimination bracket competition among the top 64 players from the VRS Ladder Qualifiers.
- Seeding: Players will be seeded according to their order of finish in the Ladder Qualifiers, with random seeding to determine the order for players who finished in the same position. In other words, the 11 players who finish #1 in any VRS Ladder Qualifier will be randomly seeded into the top 11 spots in the bracket, then the 11 players who finish #2 in any VRS Ladder Qualifier will be randomly seeded into the next 11 spots in the bracket, and so on.
- Scheduling: For each round of the Final Bracket, players will be assigned a deadline time to complete their match. Players may negotiate with each other to determine a time to play anytime before that deadline, or if they cannot agree on a time they must play at the deadline time. Bracket matches will be best of 3 races.
- Winners: Players who win will advance to the next round of the bracket, players who lose will be eliminated from the Competition, until there is only one player remaining (“Grand Prize Winner”). The remaining prizes will be awarded to players in the reverse order in which they were eliminated from the VRS Final Bracket, with tie-breaker matches played as needed.
For details on bracket rules and settings, and game-specific rules, please see the “Rules” tab on the bracket page when available (page will be available on 10/22/08).
