GGL's Call of Duty 4 winners speak »

GGL Admin
I got a chance to sit down with Michael "Mike-V" Veguira and Michael "zzirGrizz" Graves, two players from championship teams in GGL's Call of Duty 4 tournament, to discuss their path to victory and what they'll be doing with their prizes. Mike-V won the PlayStation 3 bracket with his team XoXo Hugs and Kisses, while zzirGrizz won the Xbox 360 bracket with Side X Side.

Without further ado, let's get underway!

GGL: How do you like the new TV and Future Weapons prize package?

zzirGriz: It's pretty nice, but I play on a 65 " HDTV w/ fiber optic surround sound already...lol.
Mike-V: It's great, definitely an upgrade from my 19" TV. [Editor's note: Wtf, this guy is a trooper.]

GGL: What is your favorite weapon in Call of Duty 4?

zzirGriz: M40 sniper w/ ACOG.
Mike-V: Desperadoo likes the silenced AK-47 and Madmike likes to use an M4, but my weapon of choice would have to be an M16 and occasionally a P90 or MP5 depending on the situation.

GGL: What is your custom class of choice and why?

zzirGriz: M40 sniper w/ ACOG Stopping Power / RPG / Steady Aim. Reason: Ask anyone who googles zzirGrizz.
Mike-V: M16, red dot sight, Desert Eagle, 3 frag grenades, Stopping power, and Steady aim. With that class you have Stopping Power to counter Juggernaut classes and if you get caught in close-quarter combat you have steady aim which allows you to shoot accurately without scoping.More...

GGL: Who was your most dangerous opponent in the tournament?

Mike-V: Nobody was really dangerous, but 6FU was our most challenging opponent in the tournament.
zzirGriz: Myself--got to keep calm in clutch situations.

GGL: Who was your favorite opponent that you would play again for fun?

zzirGriz: All of them!
Mike-V: I'd love to play 6FU again. They give us a challenge and it's always fun to hear their reactions after a loss :).

GGL: What's your best map?

zzirGriz: Overgrown.
Mike-V: Ambush.

GGL: What's your favorite/best tactic? What about team tactics?

Mike-V: My favorite tactic is using dead silence as my 3rd perk and being able to sprint without being heard. As far as team tactics go, depending on the game type our tactics may differ but we are mostly a rushing team. Camping is not our game.
zzirGriz: Communication--always know that someone has your back!

GGL: How often did you practice for the CoD4 tournament?

zzirGriz: Every day!
Mike-V: Not much...as a matter of fact, one of our members had just arrived home from a week-long trip about 30 minutes before the championship match. Although he was rusty we were still able to pull out the win.

GGL: Be honest. Who is the best player on your team?

zzirGriz: We are all very talented; to put an individual's name up would be pointless.
Mike-V: We all have our moments, one game it might be Madmike, another game it might be me...but I would have to say that Desperadoo is our most consistent player as long as the game type isn't search and destroy. As far as the championship match went, we all did well...not one specific person carried the team.

GGL: How do you come back from a losing scenario in a game like CoD4? Say you're down for a significant portion of the game. What do you do to overcome this and retake the lead?

zzirGriz: Get a player to fire a shot as a distraction, then have another move in slow on the flank. Bank on the fact that they are scared and not communicating. The longer they sit, the longer they get scared..lol.
Mike-V: The key to a comeback in COD4 is racking up kills to use air support. If a team mate is able to unlock a UAV, comebacks are always possible and even more so if they get an airstrike and helicopter.
