Preview Night

Our little journey began as Ruby and I boarded an Amtrak train from LA to San Diego. It was my first time meeting Ruby after a few months of working with her online and I was pleasantly suprised at how down to earth she was. It's always a gamble when you meet someone in real life who is a bit of an internet celebrity.

The first day of the show is known as preview night. This has traditionally been the best time to get your bearings on the show floor and to finalize any last minute interviews you may wish to set up. It is normally the quietest day of the show as it is only open to the press and a select few who have purchased 3 day and 4 day passes. This year was the exception. Since the 4 day passes had already sold out, this meant that the preview night would also be more packed.

As Ruby and I fought the crowds to get to our destinations Ruby's boyfriend (Perry) called us to let us know that Rosario Dawson was sitting - by herself - in a booth at the very back of the hall. Not believing that someone of her notarity would just be chilling at a booth, Ruby and I headed back to see this with our own eyes. We lucked out! There she was munching on pizza and pimping out her new comic book series The Occult Crimes Taskforce.

We were able to set up a few last minute interviews with some of our favorite artists and toy makers, as well as the game related booths. At the end of the night, we headed back to our hotel and crashed. If preview night was any indication, this was going to be a VERY busy weekend!

The Show

Ruby and I woke up at 6am in order to get ready to meet our camera crew at the convention center.  All three of us had decided to go the cosplay route for the show. It's not very often that one has the opportunity to become their favorite super heroes!

We got the show around 9am and began filming interviews.  Ruby and I hit up Joseph Michael Lisner (of the Dawn comic book fame) and Adam Hughes. We also stopped in to interview and chat with my favorite comic illustrator - Greg Horn.  Greg is known for his Emma Frost series of comic covers and is the reason that I am so enthralled with the comic world.

Hanging out with my fav. comic artist - Greg Horn

All day Thursday, we filmed interviews with the interesting "personalities" walking around the show floor. We also saw many sites that can ONLY be seen at Comic Con

Some of the many interesting sights at Ccon '07

Friday was much of the same as Thursday. We interviewed the folks at Mythic Entertainment about the upcoming Warhammer Online game, got a first look at Cartoon Network's first MMO FusionFall, met some top comic related artists and checked out the newest collectibles at the Sideshow booth. We also asked many of the attendees a very ... um ... fun question! These videos will be posted on GGL.com very shortly!

If you haven't gotten a chance, check out the Sideshow Collectibles website and drool over some of their maquettes, busts and statues.  The tomb raider one was the most recent and by far the coolest new addition to the line up. The most impressive thing about the Sideshow Collectibles 1/4 figures is that they aren't only statues but they include clothing and even metal armor and weapons.

The awesome new Lara Croft figure

On Saturday, we were joined by Tommy Tallarico (who was a good sport and cosplayed as Peter Parker) as we took the day to network and really check out the show floor.

Heading Home

After a crazy 4 days of convention madness Tommy, Meagan and I rewarded ourselves by going to see Avenue Q at the local theater. We then piled into the car for the drive back to LA. It was a crazy but amazingly fun week! We ended up making some awesome contacts, buying some fun toys and getting to interview some of our favorite artists. Stay tuned for video from the event!

Meagan is barely visable after loading her up with our purchases

Photoshoots

I will end this blog with a few pictures from the photoshoot that Meagan and I did with Blanklogo Photography during the con.  Hope you enjoy!!

Awesome pics, looks like it was fun.

One of these days I will attend an event where I can dress up as a character, I just don't know which one to be, since I don't read comics, but I do like the DC and Marvel universe.

Becky, you gotta change your brand of pantyhose. I don't like how they're fitting on you. You should try Victoria Secret or Wolford. Sure they're a little more expensive but I think you'll be happier with the fit and feel. And I'm sure Tommy will appreciate the way they feel on your legs.
