Important Information (updated frequently)
Bracket Playoffs
New Rules Added Today
1/3/2011 - Changed the challenge to same competitor from 1 in 3 days to 3 in 3 days. This will increase the activity and negate other loop holes. I will possbly ban players and teams who report more than 1 forfeit in a 3 day period vs the same player.
12/30/2010 - Changed the decline penalty from -25 points to -100 points. Now if you don't want to play you are going to pay for it, the choice is yours.
Until the bug is fixed that is allowing players and teams to not answer a challenge and not lose any points I am going to start doing this manually, if you challenge a player or a team and they do not respond within 3 days, that's 72 hours... please let me know and I will remove 100 points from their rating. This will be a lot of work on my end but it is a good solution that will ensure that the top players and teams earn their place.
12/14/10 - Lag Test: Players and teams that perform a lag test must perform it on Nuketown in Headquarters, do not lag test on any other map. This rule is in effect to protect you all.
Bracket Play begins on January 17th, each round must be completed in 1 day and the bracket will list the deadline date and time for each match, the brackets will be posted on the 17th and matches can commence at that time. Players and teams can play and report the matches either via the website bracket or to me directly anytime before the deadline, if teams and players are not able to schedule and complete the match before the deadline they will be forced to play at the deadline time which will be posted on the brackets.
Settings:
Bracket size = 8
Elimination = Double
Roster Size = 4
Best of = 3
Map Picks: Before the match begins the Team leaders must do a map pick as follows. The best seed picks one of the 5 maps from the pool to play and then removes one from the map pool which leaves 3 in the pool. The other team then picks the second map to play and tosses one out of the pool, the remaining map becomes the Tie breaker map if needed.
Maps: Firing Range, Summit, Hanoi, Villa, Launch
Rosters: All Team leaders must make sure that only 4 members are on ther roster for the bracket portion of the tournament, teams that have more than 4 members will be forced to remove all but 4 before the match takes place, these 4 members will also be the ones participating at the Finals Event so please choose wisely. Any teams that need assistance can contact me and i'll be happy to help.
Lag Test: Players and teams that perform a lag test must perform it on Nuketown in Headquarters, do not lag test on any other map. This rule is in effect to protect you all.
Hosting: The higher seeded Team/Player will host the first map and this host must be the best host for all players involved. The opposing Team/Player will host the second map and this host must be the best host for all players involved. In case of a tie, the third host will be determined by the highest score margin between the first two maps. ie. Map 1 scores are totalled and Map 2 scores are totalled and then you combine the scores from map 1 and map 2 and the team with the highest score becomes the 3rd map host.
All match settings and rules from the ladder still apply.

If you have challenges you want removed that no one has responded to please let me know and I will remove them. I will not deduct points for current pending challenges, I will only remove them.
This new rules goes into effect right now!!
12/24/2010 - New Hosting rule - The higher ranked Team/Player will host the first map and this host must be the best host for all players involved.
If a player/team plays the first map and it is discovered that match recording was not enabled then this match will become a forfeit loss for the team that did not enable match recording. The host must not end or leave the game, it must be played to completion, if the host does end or leave the game this will result in a forfeit loss.
12/20/10 - Because these ladders are very active and a lot of players and teams are full of challenges and are also unable to get challenges and are basically at a standstill I have decided to change some of the settings so that the activity level will be increased. Below are the changes that are now in effect.
Number of spots to challenge up was 20 and is now 30
Number of spots to challenge down was 10 and is now 30
Percentage of Ratings/Points to Challenge up was 20% and is now 30%
Percentage of Ratings/Points to Challenge down was 10% and is now 30%
Maximum outgoing challenges was 7 and is now 15
Maximum challenges to the same competitor was once in 7 days and is now once every 3 days
Abuse of these settings and changes will result in a ban so please play fair.
12/16/10 - By popular demand I have removed WMD and have replaced it with Firing Range, the new map will be in the list in all future challenges.
12/16/10 - Hello everyone, I know the GGL website is lacking in a lot of features that you may all be used to, I apologize for these lack of features, we are working hard to provide them in our newest website.
A lot of players and teams are having a hard time finding matches because there is no where to meet up with them so I have come up with a solution to this problem.
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a program you can join and chat with other players, it is a great way to setup matches and also get live support from us.
If you already have an IRC client such as mIRC you can join us at irc.gamesurge.net #ggl-cod
For those of you who are new to IRC I have devised an easy way for you to join in on the fun. Please follow the simple instructions below.
Go to this website http://03.chat.mibbit.com/ and do the following.
IRC: In the dropdown box select Gamesurge, for the nick put your Gamertag and for channel type in #ggl-cod and hit the Go button, cya there!!
12/14/10 - Lag Test: Players and teams that perform a lag test must perform it on Nuketown in Headquarters, do not lag test on any other map. This rule is in effect to protect you all.
Competition: Participants are not allowed to participate in more than one Gamestop Call of Duty Black Ops Ladder Tournament.
Teams, we have raised the limit of players you can have on your roster, we will now allow 8 members per team but remember that only 4 of these players will be allowed to goto the LAN finals and it is the Captain's decision of who goes.
Teams, we have raised the limit of players you can have on your roster, we will now allow 8 members per team but remember that only 4 of these players will be allowed to goto the LAN finals and it is the Captain's decision of who goes.
Q: Once our match is setup, where do we go to play?
A: Just meet up on XBL or PSN and play your matches. Team Captains are responsible for getting their team members online and ready to go.
Q: I have created a team, how do my teammates join it?
A: Give them the url to the teams profile and they will be able to click the "join team" button to join the team.
Q: What is an instant challenge?
A: An instant challenges is a challenge that you either send or receive to another person or team and the match is meant to be played right then and there. I suggest getting the match established before you make the challenge. If you send an instant challenge to a person that does not accept it or declines it they will not lose points. Please use the Instant Challenge system as it was meant to be used.
Q: What if we play a match and I discover the settings were wrong, what can I do?
A: It is your responsibility to make sure the settings are correct before beginning the match. If you played a match with wrong settings that match result will count, if this happens more than once a player may be banned from the ladder so please check the settings before proceding.
Q: If my opponent drops mid-match what should I do?
A: If your opponent drops mid-match they lose the match, report the match as a forfeit.
Q: What if a team does not have 4 members?
A: If a team does not have 4 members on their roster, do not play them, do not challenge them, if their rosters are not full they will be removed from the ladder eventually.
Q: What if my opponent or my opponents team members do not have their gamertags added?
A: Ask them to input their Gamertags on their profile page before you challenge or accept a challenge from them, teams and players that do not have Gamertags will evetually be removed from the ladders.
Q: Can I be on more than one team?
A: You may not be on more than one team, if you play on more than one team we will consider this ringing and you will likey be banned as well as the team you are playing on.
Q: Do I have to add my Gamertag?
A: Yes, please add your gamertags in your profile.
Q: How many times can I challenge the same player?
A: You are allowed to challenge the same player once in a 7 day period.
Q: What happens if we did not read the rules and play a team that does not have 4 members on their rosters or their gamertags added?
A: I will null the match and give both teams a warning, get your roster filled and add the gamertags or they maybe suspended for a few days. Do not play teams that do not have 4 members on their team or their Gamertags added.
Q: Can I play in both 4v4 Tournaments or the 1v1 In-Store tournament and a 4v4 tournament?
A: No, this is not allowed. Teams also may not be in both 4v4 Tournaments.
Ladder Type: DominationWhat we consider cheating: If you or someone else creates accounts, joins the ladder and challenges you so that you can get a free win. If you report false victories (this includes false forfeits). If you have someone else play for you (IP addresses are recorded). Lag switches. Please refer to the game rules for other forms of cheating. We will investigate and if we determine you are cheating you will be removed from the ladder.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Tournament
Game of Skill
Overview: The Call of Duty: Black Ops (“Tournament”) is a 4v4 competition with a $13,000 prize per 4v4 team. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE TO PARTICIPATE OR WIN THIS TOURNAMENT.
NOTE – due to the “ladder” format of the Tournament, players may register and join the Tournament after the Tournament has begun, up to the end of the Ladder Stage of the Tournament. LIMIT: One (1) registration per person. All registration information submitted becomes the property of GGL and will not be returned. By registering for the Tournament, participants agree to be contacted by GGL. GGL’s computer will be the official time clock for registration, and the official time zone for the Tournament will be Eastern Standard Time.
How to Play: Only valid registered squads will be eligible to compete. GGL’s decisions are final and legally binding as they pertain to this Tournament.
Ladder Rules/Settings: Squads who join the ladder will start with 1000 points and will gain points for playing and winning matches. Points are allocated as follows:
- 80 points awarded for a win
- 20 points awarded for a forfeit win
- 20 points awarded for playing (win or lose). For example, if you play and win you get a total of 100 points (80 + 20). If you play and lose you get 20 points.
- 25 points LOST if you decline a regular challenge (but there is NO penalty for declining an Instant Challenge)
- 50 points LOST if you forfeit a match
- 3-day “Challenge Active” period – this means that if you receive a challenge, you must respond (either by accepting or proposing alternate times) within 3 days or the challenge is automatically marked as a “Decline” and you lose 25 points.
- If you don’t play a match within 7 days, you are marked as inactive and you lose 100 points. You will continue to lose 100 points every 7 days that you remain inactive in the ladder. Once inactive, you can re-join the competition, but you will not be given back the points lost while inactive.
- You can only challenge a particular squad once within 7 days.
- You can only challenge other squads within a certain range of your spot in the ladder: either 20 spots up or 10 spots down in the ladder, OR within 20% of your points up the ladder or 10% of your points down in the ladder (in other words if you have 1000 points you can challenge squads up to 1200 points or down to 900 points).
Match Scheduling: During the Ladder Stage, competitors schedule matches themselves through GGL’s ladder challenge tools. First, one squad challenges another squad in the ladder, proposing three dates/times for the match. The squad that receives the challenge then has the option of either accepting one of the proposed times, in which case the match is officially scheduled, or responding with three alternate times. If the original challenger does not agree to any of the alternate times, they may drop the challenge with no penalty, but if they accept one of the alternate times then the match is officially scheduled. “Instant Challenges” may be issued or declined with no penalty. Matches once scheduled can not be altered without the agreement of both squads and without notifying the Tournament Producer. Failure to show up to compete within 10 minutes of a scheduled match time will result in a forfeit loss (with point penalty) for the squad that does not show up, and a forfeit win for the squad that does. Declining a challenge without proposing alternate times will also result in a point penalty. Squads can challenge and play as often as they wish, within the guidelines of the ladder rules.
Squads will forfeit their scheduled match if they are not present and ready to compete within ten (10) minutes of the scheduled time. The Tournament Producer will be the timekeeper, and the official time zone for the tournament will be Eastern Standard Time. *** NOTE – once a player is logged in, all times on the website appear in that player’s native time zone, chosen during the registration process. It is important that each player make sure he/she has set the correct time zone – players can edit their time zone through the “Edit Account” link.

It is important that each player make sure he/she has set the correct time zone – players can edit their time zone through the “Edit Account” link.
General Match Rules
Match Squad Size: Teams must play with 4 Squad members, no more and no less. If a team does not have 4 members they will forfeit the match.
Match Format: During the Ladder Stage, all matches will be best of 3 maps. In the event a map ends in a tie, restart the map with the official game settings and continue to replay the map until a winner is determined.
Lag Test: Players and teams that perform a lag test must perform it on Nuketown in Headquarters, do not lag test on any other map. This rule is in effect to protect you all.
Competition: Participants are not allowed to participate in more than one Gamestop Call of Duty Black Ops Ladder Tournament.
Substitutions/Alternates/Ringers: Once a match begins, no substitutions are allowed. (Note: Once the map is launched, that is considered the start of the match.) If a player(s) needs to be replaced due to console failure, hospitalization, or another serious incident occurs rendering a player (or players) unable to play, contact an admin to have that player removed from your Squad Roster and replaced with another player. If an illegal player is used, an Administrator must be notified before the start of the match. Choosing to continue to play the match may render the dispute invalid.
Match Hosting: The host must be agreed upon by all players. You may test all hosts until the best one has been determined. The host must be one of the players participating in the match.
- Default rule: During the Ladders, the squad who received the challenge will host the match.
- Optional rule: If one of the players has an excellent connection that all of the players ping fairly to, both squads may agree to use that host for the duration of the match. (Note: changing the host does not affect who chooses sides first.)
Match Interruption: If any player loses his/her connection before the map starts (during map load time for example) or before any scores are recorded (kills, captures, etc.), restart the map once the player has rejoined the game lobby or a substitute from the squad’s official roster has joined. If a player loses his/her connection mid game, continue playing as normal. If the host drops, the hosting squad will receive a forfeit for that match.
Player Agreements: Any agreements made between players outside of the permitted rules (i.e. to play under different rules, use a different map, etc.) before, during, or after a match will result in an automatic forfeit for both squads.
Lag Test Round and Internet Issues: Due to the unpredictable nature of the Internet, it is highly recommended that players communicate about their connection and play a few minutes of test play to test the host’s connection and make sure the game settings are correct. If a host is unacceptable, continue testing connections until one can be found. Once the official match has started, any lag issues that arise are to be considered out of players’ control and the match should continue as normal.
Match Disputes: Players must Enable Game Recording and keep the file for 4 days in case of a dispute. Failure to submit the video may cause a forfeit of the match. Players disputing a match must do so within 24 hours of the match. If there is an issue before the match starts, contact a Tournament Administrator immediately. Choosing to continue to play the match may render the dispute invalid.
Glitches/Exploits: Players are forbidden from using any game or hardware glitches or exploits to gain or attempt to gain an advantage. If an area within the game is accessible due to an exploit or bug, then that location is off limits. If you are unsure whether an area is considered off limits or something is a bug or glitch, ask an Admin before your match. Use of any glitch or exploit will result in a forfeit loss and potential suspension or banning from the Tournament, at GGL’s discretion.
Rosters: The rosters are open, anyone not on the roster will not be allowed to participate in the match. Ringing is not allowed.
Gamertags: Please add your gamertags/PSN ID to your profle page as well as your Teams profile page.
