Overview: The King of the Iron Fist Tekken 6 Online Tournament (“Tournament”) is an online competition with over $20,000 in prizes up for grabs, including $10,000 in cash, 4 trips to a live national final in San Francisco, Tekken 6 arcade stick bundles signed by the game producer, custom Tekken 6 PS3 skins and Xbox 360 faceplates, and Tekken 6 t-shirts! On top of that, the four players who advance to the live national final will compete with other Tekken 6 champions for a Tekken 6 arcade unit and life-sized statues of Kazuya and Jin. The tournament consists of simultaneous month-long ladders for Xbox 360 and PS3 players. The top players from each ladder will advance to single-elimination playoff brackets to determine the four players who advance to the live national final, to be held on 12/12/09. Players can start registering for the ladders on 10/19/09. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE TO PARTICIPATE IN OR WIN THIS TOURNAMENT.

IMPORTANT NOTE – This online tournament concludes with a live National Final in San Francisco on Saturday, December 12, 2009. In order to avoid holding the online playoffs over the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be a very short time window to arrange travel to the live final for the finalists after the conclusion of the Playoff Brackets. As a result, the following rules will apply:
  • Players will be required to submit winner verification documentation to GGL at the start of the Playoff Brackets, along with a confirmation that they will be able to travel to and attend the live final. Failure to submit the documentation will result in a forfeit loss in the first match of the Playoff Brackets. MAKE SURE that you register with an accurate email address and that your spam filters are set to allow emails from GGL.com, as that is how GGL will contact players for winner verification.
  • Players must be able to travel to San Francisco from their nearest airport at any time on Friday, December 11, 2009, and return at any time on Sunday, December 13, 2009. There will not be enough time to accommodate special travel requests. Players who have school or work commitments on any day from 12/11/09 – 12/13/09 should arrange to have those days off BEFORE the start of the Playoff Brackets.
  • Players under the age of 18 on December 11, 2009 MUST travel with a parent/guardian, at the parent’s/guardian’s own expense.
  • Players may be required to wear a tournament uniform to be provided by GGL at the live final.

Eligibility:
Tournament is OPEN ONLY TO RESIDENTS OF THE U.S. and CANADA (excluding residents of the province of Quebec), who are 13 years of age or older at the time of registration. The following are NOT eligible to participate or win prizes: Employees of NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. or Ayzenberg Group (collectively, “Partners”), or Professional Interactive Entertainment, Inc. dba GGL (“GGL”), and their respective parent companies, affiliates and subsidiaries, their advertising and promotion agencies, their licensors, and their respective employees, individuals engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials for this Tournament, persons who are immediate family of, dependents of (as defined by IRS regulations), or who live in the same household as any person in any of the above categories. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited by law or regulation.

How to Register: Registration for the Tournament begins at 9:00 AM (EST) on October 19, 2009 and ends at 11:59 PM (EST) on November 29, 2009. Participants must register online at http://tekken6.ggl.com and must join either the Xbox 360 or PS3 Tournament Ladder. Each participant MUST register individually and must accurately complete all required registration information.

NOTE – due to the “ladder” format of the Tournament, players may register and join the Tournament after the Tournament has begun, up to the end of the Ladder Stage of the Tournament. LIMIT: One (1) registration per person. All registration information submitted becomes the property of GGL and will not be returned. By registering for the Tournament, participants agree to be contacted by GGL. GGL’s computer will be the official time clock for registration, and the official time zone for the Tournament will be Eastern Standard Time.

How to Play: Only valid registered players will be eligible to compete. GGL’s decisions are final and legally binding as they pertain to this Tournament.

Game and Platform: Players will compete by playing the videogame Tekken 6 on the Xbox 360™ in an online match via the Xbox Live® Gold service, or on the PLAYSTATION®3 via the PLAYSTATION®Network.

Tournament Stages: The tournament for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 competitions will consist of the following stages:
-     Pre-registration (10/19/09 – 10/26/09)
-     Practice Ladder (10/27/09 – 11/1/09)
-     Tournament Ladder (11/2/09 – 11/29/09)
-     Playoff Bracket (12/2/09 – 12/6/09)
-     Live National Final (12/12/09)

Practice Ladder: On October 27, 2009, when the game is released, valid registered players will be able to begin playing practice matches in the Practice Ladders. Practice matches will not count towards the final standings, but will be used to allow players to practice playing the game and using the GGL competition system.

Ladder Stage: On November 2, 2009, at 3:00 PM EST all players’ point totals from the Practice Ladders will be reset, and the official Tournament Ladders will begin. Players will start with 1000 points and will gain points for playing and winning matches. Ladder matches are best of 3 matches. At the end of the Tournament Ladders on November 29, 2009 at 11:59 PM EST, the top 29 players in the Xbox 360 competition and the top 29 players in the PS3 competition will advance to the Playoff Brackets.

Ladder Rules/Settings: Players who join the ladder will start with 1000 points and will gain points for playing and winning matches. Points are allocated as follows:
-     80 points awarded for a win (regular win or forfeit win)
-     20 points awarded for playing (win or lose). For example, if you play and win you get a total of 100 points (80 + 20). If you play and lose you get 20 points.
-     25 points LOST if you decline a regular challenge (but there is NO penalty for declining an Instant Challenge)
50 points LOST if you forfeit a match
-     3-day “Challenge Active” period – this means that if you receive a challenge, you must respond (either by accepting or proposing alternate times) within 3 days or the challenge is automatically marked as a “Decline” and you lose 25 points.
-     If you don’t play a match within 7 days, you are marked as inactive and you lose 100 points. You will continue to lose 100 points every 7 days that you remain inactive in the ladder. Once inactive, you can re-join the competition, but you will not be given back the points lost while inactive.
-     You can only challenge a particular player once within 7 days.
-     You can only challenge other players within a certain range of your spot in the ladder: either 10 spots up or 5 spots down in the ladder, OR within 20% of your points up the ladder or 10% of your points down in the ladder (in other words if you have 1000 points you can challenge players up to 1200 points or down to 900 points).

Playoff Brackets: At the conclusion of the Tournament Ladder stage, the top 29 players from each ladder will be placed in a 32-player bracket*. Players will be seeded according to their standing in the Tournament Ladders. The brackets will be played in single elimination format until one player remains in each bracket. Bracket matches are best of 5 matches.

* The remaining 3 players in each bracket will come from a URL-sharing contest found here: http://tekken.namco.com/tournament.

Live National Final: The top 2 players from the Xbox 360 Playoff Bracket and the top 2 players from the PS3 Playoff Bracket will compete in a Live National Final on 12/12/09. The live final will consist of two competitions:

1)  GGL Champ vs. Champ. The winner of the Xbox 360 Playoff Bracket and the winner of the PlayStation 3 Playoff Bracket will play head to head on a Tekken 6 arcade unit to determine the ultimate GGL tournament champion.

2)  “Best of the Best” National 16-player Championship Tournament. The 4 finalists from the GGL online tournament (top 2 from the Xbox 360 tournament and top 2 from the PS3 tournament) will be joined by 12 other winners from Tekken 6 live tournaments and contests around the country in a national championship competition. This competition will take place only on the PS3 console, regardless of what platform the players competed on prior to this point. Players will be competing for additional prizing, including a Tekken 6 arcade unit and life-sized statues of Kazuya and Jin.

Exact times and tournament format for the Live National Final will be announced later.

Match Scheduling (Ladder): During the Tournament Ladders, competitors schedule matches themselves through GGL’s ladder challenge tools. First, one player challenges another player in the ladder, proposing three dates/times for the match. The player that receives the challenge then has the option of either accepting one of the proposed times, in which case the match is officially scheduled, or responding with three alternate times. If the original challenger does not agree to any of the alternate times, they may drop the challenge with no penalty, but if they accept one of the alternate times then the match is officially scheduled. “Instant Challenges” may be issued or declined with no penalty. Matches once scheduled can not be altered without the agreement of both players and without notifying a GGL Tournament Administrator (“Admin”). Failure to show up to compete within 10 minutes of a scheduled match time will result in a forfeit loss (with point penalty) for the player that does not show up, and a forfeit win for the player that does. Declining a challenge without proposing alternate times will also result in a point penalty. Players can challenge and play as often as they wish, within the guidelines of the ladder rules.

Match Scheduling (Bracket): Tournament game matches during the Playoff Bracket stage will be scheduled as follows. For the first round of the bracket, the matches will be assigned a time and date to be completed (“Completion Time”), which will be Friday, 12/4/09 at 9:00pm EST (times will also be listed in the tournament brackets at http://tekken6.ggl.com). The two opponents can complete their Round 1 match at any time up to the Completion Time, or if they can’t agree on a time of their own, the Completion Time becomes the default time at which they must play their match. The Round 2 matches must be completed by or at 9:00pm on Saturday, 12/5/09, and the Round 3 and Round 4 matches will be completed at 5:00pm EST and 9:00pm EST on Sunday, 12/6/09. The players can negotiate on the match time using the comments section of the “Match Details” page for their particular match at http://tekken6.ggl.com. GGL will facilitate scheduling of all game matches as needed. Tournament game matches once scheduled will be FINAL and matches may only be rescheduled or delayed as allowed by GGL in its sole discretion.

Players will forfeit their scheduled match if they are not present and ready to compete within 10 minutes of the scheduled time. GGL will be the timekeeper, and the official time zone for the tournament will be Eastern Standard Time. *** NOTE – once a player is logged in, all times on the website appear in that player’s native time zone, chosen during the registration process. It is important that each player make sure he/she has set the correct time zone – players can edit their time zone through the “Edit Account” link.

Match Information

Match Format: During the Tournament Ladders, all matches will be best of 3 matches, and each match will be best of 5 rounds. During the Playoff Brackets, all matches will be best of 5 matches, and each match will be best of 5 rounds. In the event a match ends in a tie, restart the match with the official game settings and continue to replay the stage until a winner is determined.

Official Match Start Time: The match begins when the first stage is loaded for match play. This does not include lag test rounds.

Match Squad Size: 1v1.

Game ID’s: Players must have a valid game ID (Gamertag, PSN ID, Steam ID, PB UID, etc.) listed in their GGL profile. The player’s game ID must match exactly how it is in game. Incorrect game IDs or missing game IDs will result in a forfeit loss of the match for that player.

Player Agreements: Any agreements made between players before, during, or after the match that alter the permitted rules, game settings, or assigned stages will result in an automatic forfeit for both players.

Substitutions/Alternates/Ringers: No substitutions allowed.

Match Hosting: The host must be agreed upon by all players. You may test all hosts until the best one has been determined. The host must be one of the players participating in the match.
-     Default rule: During the Tournament Ladder, the player who received the challenge will host the match. During the Playoff Bracket, the higher-seeded player will host the match.
-     Optional rule: If one of the players has an excellent connection that all of the players ping fairly to, both players may agree to use that host for the duration of the match. (Note: This does not affect who chooses sides first)

Match Interruption/Player Disconnections: If any player loses his/her connection before the stage starts (while the stage is loading) or before any scores are recorded (kills, captures, etc.), restart the stage once the player has rejoined. If a player loses his/her connection mid-game, the player will receive a forfeit for that round.

Lag Test Round and Internet Issues: Due to the unpredictable nature of the Internet, it is highly recommended that players communicate about their connection and play a few minutes of test play to test the host’s connection and make sure the game settings are correct. If a host is unacceptable, continue testing connections until one can be found. Once the official match has started, any lag issues that arise are to be considered out of players’ control and the match should continue as normal.

Tardiness: Players have 10 minutes from the scheduled match time to have be in-game ready to play. Players who are not ready with all players will receive a forfeit loss.

Match Disputes: Players must provide some sort of proof (picture, video, match replay, etc.) along with their match disputes. Failure to do so may render your dispute invalid. If there is an issue before the match starts, contact an Admin immediately. Choosing to continue to play the match may render the dispute invalid.

Glitches/Exploits: Players are forbidden from using any game or hardware glitches or exploits to gain or attempt to gain an advantage. If an area within the game is accessible due to an exploit or bug, then that location is off limits. If you are unsure whether an area is considered off limits or something is a bug or glitch, ask an Admin before your match. Use of any glitch or exploit will result in a forfeit loss and potential suspension or banning from the Tournament, at GGL’s discretion.
